“After I made a solar oven out of cardboard, glue and tin foil at a class, I have been cooking on my deck! I am so excited about this. It is easy, pleasant, and clean and gives me a good feeling to cook like this.”                  Linda Stein

May 2010

2010 is the 20th anniversary of the Pollution Prevention Act.  Come hear about some of the current pollution prevention projects underway in our region and see how those projects have contributed to both the economic and environmental vitality of the Pacific Northwest.

Current projects include Lean and Green Manufacturing, By-product Synergy, Spray Efficiency, Eco-Biz Certification, Pharmaceutical take-back and a regional effort to measure the results of pollution prevention work that has now gone national in scale.

The speaker will be Ken Grimm, Industry Outreach Manager for the Pacific Northwest Pollution Prevention Resource Center (PPRC), a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting activities that further the implementation of pollution prevention strategies and techniques in the Pacific Northwest.  Ken joined PPRC after working extensively in the manufacturing sector.  He draws on this expertise while working with various industry sectors, and the challenges they face while simultaneously becoming more competitive and "green."

Largest Solar installation in Shoreline comes on line
Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

After 6 years of promoting solar installations in the City of Shoreline, the non-profit Shoreline Solar Project is pleased to announce a Ribbon Cutting ceremony on Wednesday, March 31st to celebrate the new 20.2 kW solar electric system on the City Hall's parking garage.

Utilizing Made-in-Washington solar modules from Arlington based Silicon Energy, and installed by Shoreline based Northwest Mechanical, Inc, the solar array generates electric power while also providing shade for an entire row cars on the upper parking level.  Seattle City Light provided support for the solar installation through its Green Power Demonstration Program, which will include web-based data monitoring and an interactive display in the City Hall lobby.

Please join us for a tour highlighting Shoreline City Hall's extensive energy saving "green" features and for the Ribbon Cutting ceremony of the largest solar photovoltaic (PV) system in the city.  Participants will include Shoreline City Officials, Northwest Mechanical, Seattle City Light, Bonneville Environmental Foundation, Silicon Energy, Rainier Industries, OPUS (the contractor that built City Hall), Shoreline Solar Project, and most importantly, the public.

After the ribbon cutting, Shoreline Solar Project's co-founder, Larry Owens is presenting a free "Solar 101" seminar covering Solar Electric and Solar Hot Water systems including those installed on the City Hall property.

Date:  Wednesday, March 31
Time:  4:00 PM  Tour of City hall's green features
            4:30 PM  Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
